I’ve chosen to commence this blog at an interesting time. Lot’s happening in London right now and with all that we have the London (Notting Hill) Carnival 2011 about to take place this weekend.
The Carnival has major significance for Londoners especially those of Caribbean heritage. It was adopted in the late 50’s/early 60’s as means of unifying citizens after protest against racism and discrimination. They say that what comes around goes around and needless to say that almost 50 years later there is a similar crisis.
Can the Carnival have a similar positive impact in 2011? I am unsure. What I do know is that with approximately a million attendees over the festival weekend, the vast majority of visitors are of Anglo-European descent. This demonstrates that the event has achieved the original goal of its founders.
So where do I fit into this and why am I even commenting? Well check out my YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/MrTonyMagik for an overview of carnival and its people.
